Studio Jewelry by Zoe Petticord

Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Zoe has been making things her entire life. As a child she was always scouring the ground for little bits of junk she used to make bizarre constructions. At ‘Iolani School she earned several Gold and Silver Keys from the Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards for sculptural work she produced in her Mixed Media classes.

In college, Zoe continued to focus on mixed media sculpture under the instruction of many excellent professors and graduate students at the University of Chicago. She began working with plaster and silicone to create human-scale sculptures with protrusions molded from her face. She also became obsessed with collage and produced many portraits made with images sourced from the Smithsonian Institution Collections, before-and-afters from plastic surgeons’ websites, and self-portraits. Zoe earned her B.A. in Visual Arts with Honors in 2013.

In 2014 Zoe moved to Seattle, Washington, where she resides today. In 2016 she began taking jewelry classes at the Pratt Fine Arts Center. There she fell deeply in love with lost-wax casting. Zoe has been a member of the Seattle Metals Guild since 2016.

Expanding on her interest in mold-making, Zoe has a unique approach to making jewelry. She searches for materials with deep histories and significance to people and the Earth. She assembles and molds these materials—casting them in wax, refining their shape, and finally casting them in bronze and sterling silver. Most recently she has focused her efforts on two collections: Algae and Salt.

Today Zoe produces all her pieces by hand start-to-finish at her studio located in Seattle, WA.
